Today the postman brought me a big, heavy package from Australia
I made a little movie showing to you how I unpack the package in order to get a first overview. I load the film on You Tube just because it does not seem to work differently other ways. If he's there I'll probably set him here - I'm really excited and am going to watch tonight's treasures, which includes the package.

I have been with Sue for a little while now, but thought I should let you know all is OK, and I am having a long rest after traveling so far. Here are a few shots for you to enjoy.

It is Springtime here, and the weather has been very variable, but today it is sunny and warm so I have been out in this huge garden. There are some animals that I don't think I have seen before and a couple of very friendly dogs. One small dog looks a bit like me, but did not want to have her photograph taken - maybe next time. The last picture is one of me relaxing on a pile of natural dyed fabrics.....they smelt of Eucalyptus leaves, quite delicious!

I hope to have some more outings before heading North again.

Jen took me to melbourne for a mini break with her lovely friends. We took the train to melbourne and i loved the train station with its big wave roof....i went to Paperific where i was scrapwared by a make and take stall...we had great Thai food and wandered the streets takng snaps of graffiti , looking at street art and being kissed by strange girls on gorgeous mosaic seats....

i think jen was happy to get me home as she was a bit stressed that i might get lost....

ive had a good relax and am ready to hit the road again in the next week.....:)

Look who's arrived in Australia. Cute Potato arrived after a very long flight in one of the busiest times of the year for me....

After a long rest she has been enjoying the winter sunshine and frosts in the morning....

She came to craft with me and had cuddles with the girls,

it was such a lovely sunny winters day she stopped and sat in the sun with Merry's pottery chook...

then enough resting, she wanted a play on the old tractor ....

finally she crashed this afternoon and had a snooze on the dog couch with Luey...

It's unreal to think to think she has traveled to so many countries and seen so many things......it wont be long before i send her on her way however we still have a few things to do yet...:)

While I've been here, I've learned a new game called chess. I don't think I'm very good at it, but Karen had mercy on me and didn't make me feel bad when I lost every game.

These are my traveling companions --- Zeke and Mya. They have been good to me, and I like them very much!

Before we headed for home, I have to model a country straw hat. Don't I look marvelous in this?

Spring is Here

Spring has definitely arrived here at Westview. The forsynthia bushes are all blooming yellow. Not a great color for me, but I had to show you their beauty.

More yellow on the ground, as the daffodils are also blooming. All this yellow reminds me of sunshine, and makes me feel cheery!

Ouch! This is a wicked little bit of barbed wire at the end of the lane. I'm glad I didn't have to pose too long for this photo! This property is surrounded by cows, so I guess this is some of the leftover fencing.

Morning Stroll

Day 2 --- we took a morning stroll around the grounds, and I enjoyed sitting in this little bistro chair for a few minutes. The property is beautiful --- very peaceful and relaxing --- just the kind of respite I needed from all my recent travels.

I had to pose with this statue. Doesn't she look so playful and happy and childlike?

"Queen of the Rock" ...... LOL. I loved perching on the top of this rock, as if I were the queen surveying my lands.

Day 1 --- we arrived at Westview Bed & Breakfast. It is a lovely old building in the country with lots of charm and hospitality.

The pillows on my bed were very inviting, and the bed was so soft and comfy. I loved sleeping here and listening to the birds outside my bedroom window!

These are some of the nests and pine cones that were gathered and displayed around the living room. There was a lot of country charm, and I felt like I fit right in!

This is one of my favorite perches --- a rocker in the sitting room with an antique pillow and quilts to keep me warm. This was a great room for my morning coffee and evening glass of wine, and there was a huge picture window that looked out on the fields.

After what seemed like an eternity, I have finally arrived in Nebraska. Karen has been so busy in her studio that we have not had time to do any sightseeing yet --- but we will! She has promised me a trip to a B&B later this week, so stay tuned for photos of our journey......

I didn't get Cute Potatoe until late January then I started an intense project for work which kept me busy for several weeks until late February. Cutie was patient with me while I recovered with a bad flu bug and then planning the Italy trip took up time. Here we are in March already. My apologies for keeping her so long. A pigeon plopped down in front of the gondolas on the Grand Canal, just catching some zzz's, I guess.

Rialto Bridge, once lined with shops and filled with rag sellers, taverns and brothels on the periphery.

Many famous 11th-17th century masked balls have taken place in this square during Carnival. Today an early morning chorus of small birds singing at Saint Mark's Square in Venice, Italy fills the air. Later on, the air will be filled with the endless chatter of locals and tourists. The square has been called "the finest drawing room in Europe" and it's easy to see why. Casanova was imprisoned nearby in the doge's palace, in a very dark, dreary cell. From the grating of his cell, he could see rats of a "fearful" size. For a man who once wrote, "The chief business of my life has always been to indulge my senses" this rat infested jail probably did little to contribute to that sentiment.

Outside of Palazzo Poggi, across from Piazzale Michaelangelo. Right behind this perfectly proportioned palazzo (now a fabulous restaurant) is the delicately adorned with inlaid white Carrara and Verdi di Prato marble church of San Miniato al Monte (from the 13th c.). It's the spot where, legend has it, San Miniato picked up his decapitated head (scary) and carried it from the Arno River to a spot on the hillside. The tiny church is filled with fading frescoes that seem to sparkle when the monks sing their daily Gregorian chants (4:30 pm). Nearby is a gorgeous villa built for Marchesa Pucci in 1780 and bought later by, some would argue the greatest tenor of all time, Enrico Caruso.

A festival and historical procession for Pisa's New Year's Day, 25 March 2011, a 10th century AD ancient maritime ruling that the year would start nine months before the birth of Jesus.


The spanking clean Leaning Tower and Cathedral in Piazza del Duomo, Pisa, Italy. It took 177 years, in three stages, to complete the tower and there are 296 steps to get to the top. All of those steps help a girl to work off all of those licks of deliziosa gelato. My favourite flavor was the Amarena (cherries).

Lunch at London's National Gallery Cafe. A few secret nips on Madeline's Organic Cider made me feel pretty Yellow Submarine mellow. mmm.

WoW. That organic cider carries quite a kick, let me tell you. Westminster Abbey has such bright colours.

Entering historic Westminster Abbey, the setting for every coronation since 1066, as it was getting ready for a Japan Earthquake Ceremony. I couldn't get a closer shot of the flying buttresses (don't you just LOVE that word?---my buttress grew just a bit on this trip:) ) because of the security in place for the ceremony.


London's Underground is called the Tube and it's so easy to follow. Princess Madeline (in the window) and Moi on the Tube.


"C'est Moi" next to a Statue of revered Queen Victoria right in front of Buckingham Palace. The Changing of the Guards was fantastic to see but I'm quite sure I could never be hired as one of the Queen's guards. 1) Guns scare me. 2) How could I go pee without knocking off my tall, furry hat? 3) Standing still for long periods of time. 4) Not talking. That one would get me to the guillotine quicker than new paint drying on old stone. . Off to the right of the statue, they are building scaffolding in preparation for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and lovely Catherine Middleton.

My, what big feet you have. Statue, right front, Buckingham Palace. Some people were climbing on some of the statues which I personally didn't think Queen Elizabeth, were she peeking from an upper window, would much appreciate. Later, a group of rather unruly children, with their parents, sat down in the middle of a bed of (now desperately trampled) daffodils to take their picture.


Almost home. Good bye to London. Hello to Chicago, U.S.A airport store. That's me after looking for a sweatshirt but they didn't have one in MY size. I tried a Chicago hot dog with all of the works instead. It came with (gasp) French Fries which gave me quite a jolt of adrenaline, let me tell you.

Cute Potato Family Reunion

Cute Potato loves to sing around the supper table! and tell a few (farfetched) yarns. With song in their hearts, and more than a few tales in mind, a Spuds Family Reunion was held in Cute Potatoes honor.

Grand Mutter Edeltraut shared her recipe for a good life : Laughter (and reminded Cute Potatoe to always eat her greens).

Cousin Arnold just returned from an outer space mission and had more than a few of his own (ahem, out of this world) tales to tell.

When they came together in the Buffet line, it was easy to see the family resemblance and that made everyone so happy that they forgot their manners and broke into a wild dance. Cute Potatoe taught the group some fancy dance moves before Grand Mutter Edeltraut settled them all down.

Cute Potatoe really liked playing Pin the Curly Tail on the Golden Pig.

Honey Bear gave Cute Potatoe a gigantic kiss and a hug.

As Dieter waved good bye to Cute Potatoe, he whispered,

I'm not sure how Cute Potatoe ended up going to my old address BUT ...***good news***... as she arrived to-day, Beate & Jacq! It had me a trifle worried. I think there is a very nice mailman in Kentucky who sent Cute Potatoe on the right path.

Cute Potatoe asked me to say she had a fun time on her whirlwind mailing trip as she heard some juicy stories from some of the other packages. Some of them made her laugh. One of the packages was in German and it reminded her fondly of her Mama Beate (Küsse, Küsse to Mutter) and her home.

Today we went over to Jacq's daughters home to work on a gingerbread house. I was able to give them some great tips on how gingerbread houses are made in Germany. The above picture is Jacq's grand daughter Molly and Jacq's mother who is 91 years old.

On Saturday we went to the town of Castle Rock and had lunch with friends. There were a few people eating stuffed baked potatoes, needless to say I stayed far away from them. After eating we sang some Christmas songs, I am learning the English words.

Today we picked up Jacq's mother and went to church. There are four generations of their family that go to this church and Jacq's son-in-law is the pastor. The picture of me is in front of the Advent wreath. We spent the afternoon sewing on Christmas projects and also had a little nap. I wonder what is going on at home in Germany and how Beate is doing?

I have arrived today in Longview, WA. It was a quick trip from Ohio and I was very glad to get out of my traveling box. It looks like everyone is getting ready for Christmas. This afternoon we are baking cookies and this evening we will be going to look at the Christmas lights. Tomorrow we are out to lunch with friends. There are also many gifts to be wrapped. Hopefully I will be able to get some rest as I am a little jet lagged.

First off, apologies to everyone who if following Cutie Potato's voyage around the world. My life has gotten very complicated since I got back with her from Kentucky. My husband has been in and out of the hospital four times due to complications from the surgery he had when CP & I got back on November 1st. I've been caring for him along with still working at the hospital full time. I did have her out & ready to do more with her journal when I got a message. I'm so sorry.

I'm on my last few days here in Ohio. My hostess has ignored me for over a month while she is taking care of her ill husband, but I've had the opportunity to visit with a few of these great new friends here. We didn't get to do anything on Thanksgiving as my hostesses spent all day driving back and forth from the hospital. We didn't even get to eat any turkey or pumpkin pie!

Then I met my hostesses Scotties. They are adorable. At first, I was afraid they thought I was some sort of dog toy, but after one sniff from Frodo, everyone realized I wasn't a threat at all. I even got to take a nap with the two girls, Fiona and Arwen. But I must admit that they DO have some awfully big teeth for such small dogs!

In the next couple of days, I'll be heading off to Washington to spend my Christmas holiday there.

I just had the best time ever last weekend. It has taken me this long to get over the traveling over 500 miles in one weekend. First off, I got to met a very famous doll maker from Tasmania. Susie McMahon does the most amazing thing with paper clay, gel medium, and paint. Her dolls are the most amazing thing I've seen in my travels here. We started out last Wednesday picking Susie up from her friend's house, Linda Apple. Susie had a few things to put in the back of the Element as she has been traveling around the United States teaching doll making. Then we picked up one of Dot's Guilded Lily sisters, Janet. Janet had lots and lots of wee bags for me to go through as we drove further south to pick up Cyndy. Cyndy took one look at the back of the Element & couldn't figure out where he stuff was going to go. Dot told all three to go into the house & grab a drink and then she'd do her stuff as a creative packer. She did indeed get everything into the Element and off we went south on I-71 to Shelbyville Ohio and the conference MM&M.

Everyone had the best time first off with Susie taking two whole days to sculpt faces. Everyone except Dot & Cyndy made the most gorgeous adorable female faces. Cyndy' wanted to make a beautiful borg and indeed she was beautiful except for the big hole in her head, but hey! who am I to talk about facial problems. Dot made this steampunk head which she swore will eventually be turned into a doll. We'll see about that!

Then we took a class with Lucy Landry. She does incredible silk embroidered faces.I wanted to post a picture of me with the Moth doll, but someone had the wrong settings on the camera...not me as I don't have thumbs or fingers. Dot had a bit of vertigo these last two days so she didn't finish anything. I think she spent more time napping & walking around looking at what everyone else was doing. But she learned some pointers on how to assemble the finished doll. Once again, I'm not holding my breath that she finishes, but then she just might surprise me before I leave.

Well, she promised me to take her to work this weekend. I wonder if they make lab coats in my size.

WOW! I'm in Ohio

I arrived last week, but there was so much noise and whirl wind activity that I decided to just relax from all the traveling I've done and stay in my box for a couple days. Last night, I realized that all that noise was intriguing me, so I slowly opened the lid and looked out at a most amazing sight. There before me was a sparkling that hurt my eyes. My host all offered me sun glasses because of the glare coming off their bodies, but eventually with dim lighting and a glass of wine, I became use to the attack on my eyes. Then I was amazed that here were all these creatures made from beads and fabric waiting for me to do something. What could I do to make them less nervous? One thing is that I had to switch my vocal recognition from German to English. I still had a little trouble understanding some of them as they all had some accent. Daisy told me it was called Appalachian & I'd get use to it, but that forget understanding the trolls as they purposely spoke in Trollish to let the others know they were unique. Like not looking at those faces would make me even realize they blended in. I was introduced to some celebrities who told me THEY were on the front cover of a magazine...Daisy said they were just stuck up and had to do what the big tree told them to do. I felt better.

Then Daisy sat next to me & whispered all the secrets of this house filled with all kinds to creatures. The best secret she told me was to just be myself and to not let all the sparkle blind my judgment. Most the the beaded creatures thought because it took more time to create them that they were special, but Daisy said that Dot loved all of them.

This morning when I got up was I surprised to go into the big room with all these plants and sunlight and find movie stars! I'm not kidding? Here is me with Cher, Dracula, and this little chipmunk who said she had Alvin's heart sewn up in a pouch. She was very cute and had this high pitched voice that was so adorable. Dracula wanted to share his lunch with me, but yuck! I don't like human blood. Cher was too busy singing to the Sun to eat. She said she got her power from the Sol. Is that some version of American fast food? I don't know. Finally Chloe let me eat some of the delicious nuts and berries. She said Alvin loved acorns, but I passed. I don't have any big teeth to bit into that hard shell.

Half an hour after lunch, I was invited into the foyer where Fantasy sat in her ocean garden with all her friends. Now I understand what Daisy said as Fantasy was so friendly and just earthy in her watery goodness that I began to feel I could live here. Then the seahorse nipped at my patch thinking it something good to eat so I had to leave, but I waved at Fantasy & promised to come back for another swim soon.

Now I'm busy packing. Dot told me that she had a big surprise for me. Tomorrow she's taking me to Kentucky to attend my first doll makers conference. I have no idea what that is, but I'm excited.

Cute Potatoe Gets an Adjustment

Cute Potatoe was complaining of a little
back pain from all her travel far and wide
so she went with me to visit the wondrous
Dr. Patel, my chiropractor.

Here she is on the table waiting for
Urvashi to begin. A little flip on to
her tummy and voila...

Her back felt so much better she wanted a
cuddle with Dr. Patel.

Don't they look sweet together.

I thought that maybe her back was
out of whack because she did not
have a dream pillow to rest upon
at night, so with the bits of fabric
and buttons Beate sent, and some
of my own, Cute now has a lavender
and eucalyptus dream pillow to
travel with her on the rest of her journey.

The girls have really gotten to know each other

over the last few days and since today is just

a pristine Fall day, we hung out in the yard together.

The first freeze was last night. We woke up to 32F/0C

this morning and promptly lit the wood stove

to warm up the house.

But now the weather has warmed to 50F/10C

and the sky has puffy white dot clouds and

glorious sun. The girls thought it would be

great to do a little raking up by the wood pile.

They were so helpful.

We took a stroll up into the garden and the girls

just disappeared. I found them later playing hide

and seek among the comfrey leaves with some

wild asters they had picked in the garden.

They helped me pick dandelion, wild chickweed

and some mint for the rabbits and ducks.

Smudge bunny and the duck girls

really appreciated their wild greens.

Then Smudge decided to hang out

with the girls in the hay.

I think Cute Potatoe was

taking a little nap in the leafy green coolness.

Flat Alice and Smudge had quite the chat.

We took some pictures

of the turning leaves across

the pond.

But the colors seem a little dull this year.

And the girls rested by the kayak before coming

in for lunch.

The Ancient One kept a watch over us all.

Farewell to Wiltshire

We were hoping that there would be time for one more adventure before I have to leave Wiltshire, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Instead this weekend I have been busy journaling my stay.
My bags are now all packed and tomorrow I'll be off on the next leg of my journey. I'm excited as I'll be crossing an ocean to get to America. It's going to take me about a week to get there but I know the long journey will be worth it!

Wiltshire's World Heritage Rocks!

Angela and I have had a great time out and about this morning exploring some of Wiltshire's ancient places. First off we went to the Avebury stone circle, a World Heritage Site.Avebury is great, unlike the famous circle at Stone Henge, you can get right up to and play among the huge sarsen stones.
Well I thoroughly exhausted myself running around among the stones but there was more to see yet. Look here I am giving Angela some Cute Potatoe loving at Silbury Hill.The adventure didn't end at Silbury, we had one last place to go. The journey was quite dangerous, I thought I might get eaten but the local wildlife.......... but we made it past and I got a well deserved rest sitting among the entrance stones to West Kennet Long Barrow.You can even go part way inside this ancient burial mound. It's pretty spooky but also very beautiful.What a fabulous morning, Wiltshire rocks!It'll soon be time for me to go on the next leg of my world tour, but there might be time for one more outing in Wiltshire before I go. Reading Cute's travel journal, it seems like she has been having far too much fun on her travels ;-) so I thought it was about time Cute experienced something a little more 'ordinary' so these last couple of days I've dragged CP along to the office to help me out.I have to admit things have been far easier with CP around, my diary is getting organised, reports are being written and handed in on time and even the filing has been done. CP is a great Personal Assistant :) The only downside is CP keeps stealing all the chocolate biscuits at coffee break.

But before you readers get worried that it's all work and now play for CP here in Chippenham, don't worry the weekend is almost upon us, and I will be taking CP to visit some of Wiltshire's ancient wonders.

Cute Potatoe has been with me for a few days now and already we have been having some adventures.

A couple of days ago I took Cute to a very special, but maybe a little unusual place, the Crematorium. OK so maybe that sounds a bit odd or a little creepy but really it's not - look we went to visit the beautiful Rose GardenI wanted to take Cute to meet my heroine - my Mum - who sadly lost her battle with cancer a few years ago. It was my Mum who taught me how to sew. And my love of sewing has brought me to many new friends via the internet and this is really how CP came to stay. Mum would have loved the whole idea of Cute's travel adventure. :-)

Went to Bournemouth Folk Club last night(Hello Amy good to meet you ) Jim was performing and had thought that Cutie might like to have a guest slot with him ........but I'm sorry folks it was not to be....... Cutie had a massive attack of stage fright and Jim had to perform alone .....she enjoyed all the acts though ......it was a great evening

Cutie has an amzing unique style of piano and guitar playing ...I do wish you could have seen it ........

Cute Potatoe meets Augustus and visits a tattoo parlour

Cute Potatoe arrived on Monday..we were so happy to see her...Augustus was particularly delighted.....on Tuesday we went to Visit a tattoo studio in Brighton while we were there we went to the beach,had a bus ride and went for a promenade on the pier where Cute Potatoe wondered what it would be like to be a lifeguard.......Cutie (as Augustus has named her) quite fancied getting 'inked' at the tattoo shop....thought I had better keep an eye on her she obviously has a 'wild' side........x

Well it's almost the end of CP's stay with me and I wanted to make her last day as exciting as possible. As she was so thrilled to meet ' The Stig' the other day I thought she would like to try out some wheels and give him a run for his money. My Brother-in-Law has this cool bike and as there was no way on earth that I was perching MY bottom on there... my Sister (suitably disguised...being camera shy...lol) kindly offered Cute Potato a ride . CP perched herself way up front, not wanting to miss a moment....

but after a while she decided that her hair was getting messy in the wind and hopped backwards onto the seat. A gal always wants to look her best after all :D

A while later she went on a visit to the train museum exchanging one set of wheels for another. The reason being that this is what the town I live in is famous for. Timothy Hackworth made his home here and built some of the most famous locomotives of his time.

Cute Potato did a lot of climbing but she didn't seem to mind a bit... in fact she is a bit of a diva in front of the camera...lol

Can you spot her on this train... the famous Mallard... heh heh I almost lost her up there she looked so tiny.

Well we've had a ball Cute potaoe and I and I really will be sorry to see her leave... but she is moving on to pastures new tomorrow (should have been today BUT I got my days mixed up....it's my age don't you know...lol). I don't think CP minded but she is really looking forward to the next leg of her journey and I'm sure she is going to receive a lovely warm welcome from Lorna and will be looking forward to having more adventures to share.

Apple pickin' time

Nothing much happened for Cute Potatoe the last few days cos we've had oooodles of rain...bah!!... but today the sun shone and while CP and I were taking in the view of a wonderful blue sky we spied something at the bottom of the garden that I hadn't noticed before. CP obviously has much better eyesight than I and squealed with excitement at her discovery of an apple tree :D Ooooooh can we go climbing and pick apples says she... Not on your Nelly says I ... don't you know I'm scared of heights!! Well CP was having none of that... excuses, excuses .... all you have to do is lift me up cos I is a brave Cute Potato I am. So off we trotted and true to her word she was fearless and before I knew it she had leapt from my arms and was off like a shot climbing that tree like a seasoned lumberjack .

She perched herself up there in the dizzy heights ...trying to get a suntan as she posed for a while and THEN....... "T I M B E R" she shouted as she shook those branches with all her might while the apples tumbled down like rain around my head until I stood in a puddle of them :D Job well done says she.... laughing hilariously at my predicament... "don't stand on them... we have to eat them". She was a good CP though once she dried the tears of laughter from her eyes and helped me collect all her well earned goodies ready for whatever mouthwatering delight I manage to make with them :D

They are only teeny weeny apples (crab apples to those of you who know what I'm talking about) but with lots of sugar I'm sure they will taste just wonderful!!

Cute Potatoe has a new friend....

Before she took herself off yesterday for a lie down... she made me promise to do something creative and because she had had a rough few days I had to oblige. I felt she wouldn't be missing Beate quite so much if she had a friend of her own. In her belongings there was a bag of fabric pieces to make something with and after much thought I had a lightbulb moment and decided to make her a teddy :D

She was so excited to meet him this morning that she was jumping up and down with happiness and a big smile has been on her face all day. I told her the button on his tummy is a happiness button and if she feels homesick she can touch it and all will be well with the world again. :-P

Another exciting thing happened to CP today... we haven't been out because I have been looking after my grandson who became camera shy (that's a first)... but he introduced her to The Stig and she thought he was so handsome and allowed him to teach her to play snooker...lol He looked on with his arms folded and congratulated her when she took to the game like a duck to water :D

Hello everyone. Cute Potatoe has now arrived at my house in England. I apologise for the delay in posting but I wasn't home when she first arrived so poor girl had to spend a while at the Post Office depot until she could be re-delivered. She was sooooo tired when she arrived that all she wanted was a hot cup of tea and sleep!!

Poor Cute Potatoe not only was she jet lagged but she also had no company for almost a week !

She is now safely tucked away in bed catching up on her beauty sleep while I plan what we can get up to together the rest of the week. She sure does look CUTE with that mop of red hair spread out on the pillow. Hope she has nice dreams :D

We will see you again tomorrow.

Cute Potatoe have said goodbye to Denmark, Thursday, she began her journey to Kris, who lives in England. I made a collage postcard to Beate with pictures from my town, at a central location in the town we have a sculpture with a potatoe plant, I live en a small town out in the country, the town is surrounded by potatoe fields, therefore, a potatoe plant on the sculpture.

Wanted to buy some new fabrics and other stuff that I need, so today Cute Potatoe and I was picked up by my daughter in-law, we wanted to visit a town called Års one hour drive from where I live, in the shop in Års there are a lots of fabric and other exciting things.

A guy on Facebook showed me a link to Mike Kelley - he is an interesting artist, born in the early 1950s and he works usually in the medium of stuffed toys. I think - you have to google him.
